Why We Have a Training Program
We live in a mass produced world filled with generic objects that lack any sense of humanity. We firmly believe that the objects we surround ourselves with should not only reflect who we are as individuals and have a life cycle longer than that of a gnat, but also be borne of passion, skill, and utility. We teach because it is a way for us to encourage and support a culture that is not built on consumption and depletion, but rather on creation and foresight. WE ARE MAKERS. And we love concrete. Our work is never far from us, our fingernails are always a little dirty, and our minds don’t stop working just because we clock out. This is the curse of passion. If you share our point of view or WANT to, then our training courses are for you.
We have partnered with Buddy Rhodes to offer some of the most advanced and well-rounded course selections on the market. We offer more than just information. Our training experience is designed to give you the foundational skills and understanding to make your own decisions and forge your own path. When you come to Set in Stone you will have access to some of the most experienced and original thinkers in the industry. Not to mention the thrill, danger and intrigue of working in our shop. We present the tried and true heritage of concrete shoulder to shoulder with state-of-the-art materials and techniques to give you the absolute best experience and instruction. We remember when we were just starting out; trying to get our bearings, gaining knowledge and experience, and establishing ourselves and our methods. We admired Buddy Rhodes for finding his own way and in the process changing the face of the decorative concrete industry. Now we are forging our own path and we consider it an honor to join Buddy in the Concrete Evolution and we offer you the opportunity to do the same.
Regardless of your present skill level and experience, we have something to offer you. The artisan concrete craft requires three distinct skill sets: mold building, casting, and finishing. Our class structure covers all three areas in such a way as to make you self-sufficient and capable of continuing to develop on you own. Our Comprehensive Demo is an intense one day introduction to the three foundational skills of concrete. The Complete Casting+ class covers everything you need to know from templating to sealing with special emphasis on a variety of casting techniques. There is not another class on the market that gives you the breadth of casting experience that this class does. And our Mold Building teaches you a broad and deep range of mold building methods and materials, enabling you to tackle a wider range of projects with confidence.
Your time here will be unlike any other training experience you have had. We are proud to live and work in Chattanooga, Tennessee and are eager to show her off. When we close up shop we can show you some of the best restaurants, bars, and entertainment in town. Most of which is within easy walking distance of the shop. Our neighborhood on the SouthSide of Chattanooga is a hub of local culture; art, food, and music.
If you can come with your family, there is no lack of wholesome activities, regardless of age. Here is a short list to whet your appetite: the Tennessee Aquarium, the Creative Discovery Museum, the River Front, and incredible hiking opportunities. Chattanooga is a very bike friendly town; bring your own or take advantage of our community bike share program. Either way, it is the perfect way to get around. For more information click here.
